Join Novalix at EFMC-ASMC 2025 in Porto (Portugal) from August 31 to September 4.
Organized by the Medicinal Chemistry Division of the Società Chimica Italiana, on behalf of the European Federation for Medicinal Chemistry and Chemical Biology, this X International Symposium on Advances in Synthetic and Medicinal Chemistry brings together chemists from industry, academia and companies worldwide.
Poster presentation: “Efficient access to PyB(Epin): Synthesis, isolation, stability and reactivity”
We are excited to share that Dr Franck Brebion, Associate Director in Synthetic Chemistry, will present a scientific poster entitled “Efficient access to PyB(Epin): Synthesis, isolation, stability and reactivity” at EFMC-ASMC. This work highlights a practical approach to accessing pyridine-derived boronic esters, critical yet often underused building blocks in medicinal chemistry.
Abstract: Pyridine moieties are commonly employed in medicinal chemistry as bioisosteric replacements for phenyl rings, owing to their ability to modulate biochemical activity and enhance both the pharmacodynamic and pharmacokinetic properties of drug candidates. In the early stages of drug discovery, pyridine incorporation is typically achieved through Suzuki-Miyaura cross-coupling between an aryl boronic acid (or ester) and a halo-pyridine.1 In contrast, the alternative approach – using pyridine-derived boronic acids (or esters) – is less frequently pursued. This is largely due to the limited availability of such boronic derivatives, their instability upon storage and their tendency to protodeboronation.
