Biophysics in Drug Discovery 2026.
We are extremely pleased to announce that the 12th Novalix Conference ‘Biophysics in Drug Discovery‘ is scheduled from February 17 to 19, 2026, in San Diego, CA, USA.
This edition will allow us to connect more closely with key speakers and scientific leaders based on the West Coast, and to strengthen our program with expanded opportunities for collaboration and exchange.
We are therefore thrilled to confirm our two Keynote Speakers:
- Dr Ann Boriack-Sjodin – Takeda
- Prof. Benjamin F. Cravatt – The Scripps Research Institute
The Conference Programme will include the following sessions:
- Biophysical Tools for Induced-Proximity Modalities
- Affinity-Based Lead Discovery
- Hybrid Approaches around CryoEM (for IMPs, RNA…)
- Advances in Biophysical Methods
Multi-method Validation of Ligand Binding and GPBAR1–Gs Coupling for Drug Discovery
We are excited to announce that Denis Zeyer, Ph. D., CEO of Novalix, will hold an oral communication on “Multi-method Validation of Ligand Binding and GPBAR1–Gs Coupling for Drug Discovery”.
This talk will showcase how combining cryo-EM, HDX-MS, and molecular dynamics enables high-resolution GPCR structures, validated ligand positioning, and deeper mechanistic insights. The integrated approach overcomes traditional challenges in GPCR structural biology, maximizing the impact of these data for structure-based drug design.
Abstract: G protein-coupled receptors (GPCRs) are central therapeutic targets, yet obtaining cryo-EM structures of GPCR–ligand–G protein complexes at resolutions sufficient for structure-based drug design (SBDD) remains highly challenging. Intrinsic receptor flexibility and dynamic ligand engagement often limit map quality, preventing unambiguous ligand placement and reducing the translational impact of structural data.
GPBAR1 (TGR5), a class A bile-acid receptor involved in metabolic and inflammatory regulation, exemplifies these challenges. To overcome them, we combine high-resolution cryo-EM, hydrogen/deuterium exchange mass spectrometry (HDX-MS) and molecular dynamics (MD) simulations to produce a robust, fully validated description of ligand binding and GPBAR1–Gs coupling.
